Proposing an Intelligent Dual-Energy Radiation-Based System for Metering Scale Layer Thickness in Oil Pipelines Containing an Annular Regime of Three-Phase Flow

Deposition of scale layers inside pipelines leads to many problems, e.g., reducing the internal diameter pipelines, damage drilling equipment because corrosion, increasing energy consumption decreased efficiency equipment, and shortened life, etc., in petroleum industry. Gamma attenuation could be implemented as a non-invasive approach suitable for determining mineral layer. In this paper, an intelligent system metering layer thickness independently each phase’s volume fraction annular three-phase flow is presented. The based on use combination RBF neural network dual-energy radiation detection system. Photo peaks 241Am 133Ba registered two transmitted detectors, scale-layer pipe were considered network’s input output, respectively. architecture presented was optimized using trial-and-error method. regression diagrams testing set plotted, which demonstrate precision well correction. MAE RMSE 0.07 0.09, This novel flows promising practical tool oil, chemical, petrochemical industries.
